Osteria Selva

10 min. | €€€ | Business Lunch: 16–23 € | Wed–Mon | Google Maps

Larice is a farm restaurant where part of the produce comes directly from their own land. The atmosphere is best described as alpine chic: relaxed, refined, and surrounded by nature. Every time we’ve eaten here, the food has been so good that I’ve booked our next visit before even leaving the restaurant. The tasting menu offers a wide variety of dishes and can be adapted for allergies.

Nasturzio

20 min. | €€€ | Business Lunch: 16–23€ | Thu-Tue | Google Maps | Website

Nasturzio is a contemporary restaurant set in a beautifully restored former convent, which gives the whole experience a special sense of place. The kitchen delivers a creative take on regional Italian cuisine, complemented by subtle international influences. The focus is on strong flavors, high-quality ingredients, and balanced compositions rather than flashy techniques.

Local classics like Scarpinocc sit comfortably alongside globally inspired dishes, all executed with precision and clarity. Service is warm and professional, creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. The business lunch offers exceptional value, while the tasting menus provide a deeper look into the chef’s vision and can be adapted to dietary needs.

If it were up to us, Nasturzio would already have a star.

Ristorante Mas-cì

15 min | €€€ | No business lunch | Google Maps

Ask anyone in Val Seriana for their favorite restaurant and Mas-cì almost always appears in the top three. Once you go, you’ll understand why. Every dish is packed with flavor, and their use of local cheeses is exceptional — Taleggio with radicchio is a standout combination. And if you love truffles, this is an absolute must.

Osteria al Borgo

10 min | €€€ | No Business Lunch | Google Maps

Osteria al Borgo offers a beautiful view over Valle del Riso — the valley where Casa Birmau is located. A relaxed setting paired with very good service, a thoughtful wine selection, and well-executed local dishes. A great choice when you want quality food with a view.

Isacco Bistrot

20 min. | €€€ | No Business Lunch | Wed–Sun | Google Maps

The village pizzeria — casual, reliable, and perfect for takeaway. Good pizza, friendly atmosphere, and exactly what you want on an easy evening close to home.

Ristorante Da Leone

15 min. | €€ | Business Lunch: 13 € incl. wine | Tue–Sun | Google Maps

For Italian modern design, go to Milan. For Italian kitsch — and the most food and drink you can possibly get for 13 € — this is exactly the right place. Da Leone is an experience of its own: generous portions, lively atmosphere, and unapologetically traditional. Come hungry.

Neve & Quattro Cime

20 min. | €€ | No Business Lunch | Neve Quattro Cime

These two restaurants are perfect to combine with hikes starting in Zambla Alta — for example Monte Alben or Passo Zambla. Expect rich local dishes, generous portions, and a classic mountain-hut atmosphere. Ideal as a reward after a long walk.

Albergo La Pesa

10 min | €€ | Business Lunch: 15 € incl. wine | Google Maps

A hotel built in the late ’70s — and not much has changed since. The architecture alone is worth a visit. Add down-to-earth local dishes and a solid business lunch with wine included, and you get a refreshingly honest, no-frills experience.

Eating out in Italy

  1. Lunch times are strict. Don't expect to still get a table after 13:30.

  2. Go chic at night.

  3. Be sure to make a reservation during the weekend.

  4. As Val Seriana is not suffering from mass tourism, the "pranzo lavori" is a normal thing. Most restaurants offer 2-3 courses at a good price.

  5. You don't need to wait until you can pay at your waiter, usually there is a desk where you can pay at.

  6. Try your best Italian. You will get many compliments!

Local dishes to try

  1. Casoncelli: A kind of ravioli with meat filling, prepared in butter and sage

  2. Scarpinocc: A kind of ravioli with cheese filling, prepared in butter and sage

  3. Polenta: with rabbit or porcini

  4. Taleggio: A soft cheese

  5. Salame della bergamasca: The bigger the better salamis

  6. Formai de Mut: A hard cheese

  7. Polenta e Osei: This is actually not polenta, but a small cake covered with a layer of yellow marzipan

Restaurants that are worth a trip

Some restaurants were so great, but take a bit longer to get there. Often can be combined with a hike, visiting a winery or a swim in a lake.

  1. Da Sapi – 50 min. – Award winning kitchen, lovely tasting menu.

  2. Ai Burratini – 55 min. – Can be combined with a hike or a visit to lake Iseo

  3. Al Resú – 75 min. – Lovely tasting menu. Can be combined with a hike, the area is stunning.

  4. Enoteca della Valpolicella – 1 hr 45 min. One of the best restaurants we've ever been to. Can be combined with a trip to lake Garda or even better to discover the red wines (Amarone) of Valpolicella

  5. Osteria Lanzati – 50 min. – Part of a winery, which offers wine walks and tastings. Their sparkling wine "Brut Goia" is amazing.
